 Careers

ABARES was formed following the merger of the Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) and the Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS) in 2010. Our high-quality, professionally independent research and analysis is well recognised throughout Australia and around the world.

We offer opportunities in science and economics, as well as other fields. The bureau is committed to excellence, innovation and creativity, and the promotion of rigorous, high quality, accessible scientific and economic outputs to inform policymakers.

The bureau seeks highly skilled staff who are able to work creatively and constructively with stakeholders and clients. The bureau is an ideal employer for those who want to develop their skills, build strong relationships, and work across a range of fields relating to the agriculture, fisheries and forestry portfolio.

Our human resources services are provided by the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry. You can find out more about current vacancies with the bureau at DAFF jobs.

The bureau also offers an Entry Level Professional Program and a University Vacation Program (UVEP deferred for 2014).

Our Entry Level Professional Program (ELPP) has moved away from a more traditional graduate development program and focuses on establishing expertise in specific areas within ABARES. Participants who take part in the ELPP will have access to a variety of tailored activities, offering individual focus on your learning and development, allowing you to make informed decisions about the rest of your career.

If you are interested in working for the bureau on a short-term or casual basis, you can also register your interest on the ABARES specialist register. The bureau also maintains an alumni register for previous staff members.
