I present the annual report of the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry for the year ended 30 June 2011.

As required by section 63 of the Public Service Act 1999 (the Act), the report has been prepared in accordance with the 'Requirements for annual reports' approved by the Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit.

I am pleased that the report notes progress during the year to achieve the department’s two planned outcomes. The report also foreshadows portfolio activities for 2011–12.

I am satisfied that the department has prepared fraud risk assessments and fraud control plans, and has in place fraud prevention, detection, investigation, reporting and data collection procedures and processes that meet the department’s needs and comply with the Australian Government Fraud Control Guidelines.

Under subsection 63(1) of the Act you are required to lay a copy of the report before each House of the Parliament on or before 31 October 2011.

I also take this opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of all departmental employees and their continuing commitment to supporting the government’s objectives.
