Climate change is currently impacting on the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors. Climate change will set a broad range of challenges for these industries and it is important that they are presented with options which facilitate adjustment, promote productivity growth and encourage sustainability over the long term.
The Climate Change Branch coordinates the department’s policy response to climate change and water across the department, utilising the economic and scientific expertise in ABARE and the BRS. The branch also works closely with key policy areas across the department which have strong links with industry and a well developed understanding of challenges in different regions across Australia.

DAFF's goal is to assist our forestry industry to grow, improve and capitalise on new opportunities while protecting the environment and contributing to the prosperity and quality of life in rural and regional Australia. While forests will continue to provide sustainably produced wood, it will increasingly provide opportunities to help reduce the level of greenhouse gases, control salinity and improve biodiversity conservation.
