Our Graduate Development Program
Cultivate your skills
Throughout your graduate year you will undertake a structured training and development program resulting in a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Canberra.
This training will provide you with a solid foundation to commence your career with the department and the Australian Public Service, equipping you with the skills and knowledge that will place you in a highly competitive position.
You'll also undertake a formal induction program to introduce you to working in the department and the Australian Public Service, a leadership workshop, training in communications and project management, as well as a five day tour where you will meet with key industry representatives.
Support network
As a graduate you will receive support to assist in your transition to the department and Canberra. This includes support from the Graduate Development Program managers, trained supervisors, experienced facilitators and coaches as well as a network of previous graduates.
You’ll also have the opportunity to give and receive feedback on your progress through individual meetings, regular focus groups and monthly graduate group meetings.
Social Network of Graduates (SNOG)
On commencement many graduates join the Social Network of Graduates (SNOG). This network is made up of graduates from a variety of public and private sector organisations and offers a variety of social activities and events for its members.
It is a great way to meet other graduates and provides valuable support to those who have recently moved to Canberra. Should you choose to become a member, DAFF will cover the cost of your membership fee.
Rotations
As part of the program, graduates undertake three challenging workplace rotations that aim to provide you with a diverse overview of the department. Through these rotations you are provided with an opportunity to contribute to policy development, program management and corporate management within the department.
