The recruitment process
Shortlisting
Once all applications have been received applications will be shortlised and candidates will be selected to proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process. Over the past three years we have averaged 900–1300 applications each year, so the quality of your application is important.
Second stage assessment
Approximately 500 candidates will be invited to complete an unsupervised online test. This online test will test an applicant’s verbal and numerical abilities.
Applicants who are selected to proceed to the final assessment stage will have the results of their unsupervised test verified by being retested in a supervised environment. It is envisaged that the online testing will be conducted mid May.
Information from this assessment along with the original information collected through the online application will be re-assessed to select approximately 280 - 300 candidates to proceed to the final stage of our recruitment process.
Final assessment
The final assessment – Assessment Centres - may encompass a range of online, group and individual activities designed to reflect the work that you would be undertaking as a graduate in the department.
At this assessment you may expect to participate in:
-
group exercises
-
a written analytical exercise
-
problem solving activities
-
an interview
-
a presentation
You will be provided with further information to assist you on the day. From the information gathered at the final assessment we will then select the successful graduates to join the department's Graduate Development Program in 2009.
Assessment Centres have now been completed. Candidates who attended the Assessment Centres will be advised of the outcome by 31 August 2008. If you have any queries, please contact us via the email link below.
