Christine Hoy
Christine grew up in Broome and has family spread throughout the Kimberley’s Broome, Derby, Fitzroy Crossing, Kununurra and most of the surrounding communities. Christine is the eldest of seven and has six children of her own, four beautiful girls and two wonderful boys, their ages range between 9 and 25. She is also a grandmother of twin girls! (Christine is not as old as she sounds!)I commenced work with the Australian Public Service in 1986 with the Department of Social Security. I moved to the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations working in both areas of Aboriginal Employment Education and Training.
Whilst promoting education in the Kimberley’s, I decided to venture into the tertiary arena and studied Veterinary Science. The arrival of children set back my studies somewhat, however I am a qualified Veterinary Technician. Having worked in the veterinary industry for a number of years, circumstance and opportunity led me straight back to the Public Service.
I have worked extensively in areas that relate to Aboriginal employment and education and in recent years I have pursued my own interest in Human Resources.
My current role is a Human Resource Officer in the Learning and Development section of the People Strategies Group in AQIS. I contribute to the recruitment portfolio with particular interest in Aboriginal recruitment and have been involved with the Australian Public Service Commission's recruitment process for the Indigenous Entry Level Traineeships.
I am the Chairperson on the Indigenous Australian Public Service Employee Network (IAPSEN). The Network is an important vehicle for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees to support each other, share information and experiences and promote cultural awareness and respect in the wider APS. The Network also plays a role in supporting APS recruitment, retention and development initiatives for Indigenous employees.
I enjoy the challenges and opportunities I face in all my roles and look forward to perfecting my work life family balance.
