Hannah Wood

Hannah WoodHannah grew up in Perth and is the eldest of four.  Hannah has two sisters and a brother with two nephews who I adore.  In 2008 Hannah commenced work with DAFF at the Perth International Airport as a Quarantine Officer.

Firstly I studied for six weeks learning about quarantine. I found it really interesting and a great insight about how important and broad Quarantine is. This training gave me the knowledge and skills to perform my duties as a Quarantine Officer.

Some of my duties as a Quarantine Officer involve manually checking passengers’ goods, x-raying baggage and being awake at weird hours. Mostly, though, I educate passengers about our role and their responsibilities.  The best part about being a Quarantine Officer is that you are always learning and developing with technical knowledge and service.

I’ve been working with Quarantine for 18 months and really enjoy it. I have found that it has been developing me as a professional public servant, even with shift work!

Identifying as an Aboriginal is important to me.  Finding my brother last year was amazing.  Now our family is trying to find our mob in NSW.
