AQIS Welcomes Basket Recall
17 January 2005
A national recall of two styles of wood and cane baskets by the importer, the Glass Jar Pasta Company, was welcomed today by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS).
The baskets, sold as part of hamper packages through Target stores nationally, may contain larvae of the lesser auger beetle and the longicorn beetle, both of which are wood borers and are exotic to Australia. They are therefore of quarantine concern.
While larvae cannot transfer to other wooden products, the recall is a precaution to ensure that they don’t develop to become adult beetles.
The Glass Jar Pasta Company is asking people who have bought the ‘Coffee for Two’, ‘Tea for Two’, ‘Hot Chocolate for Two’ and the ‘Festive Delights Hamper’ from Target stores late last year to immediately place the basket (without its contents) in a sealed plastic bag and:
- return the basket (without the contents) to any Target store for a refund
OR, if this is not possible
- treat the basket yourself by placing the bag and the basket (without the contents) in a freezer for 14 days (2 weeks)
OR
- burn the basket (without the contents), observing any local fire restrictions and regulations.
Inquiries from members of the public about the recall should be directed to the Glass Jar Pasta Company on the toll free number 1800 814 788.
