Balance database—a skills register for appointments in the
Australian Government Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry portfolio
The Balance database is a list of candidates with skills, experience and expertise relevant to the agriculture, fishing, forestry and food processing sectors and who are interested in being considered for appointment to part-time positions on one of the sector’s many statutory or non-statutory bodies.
There are many such organisations within the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry portfolio. They range from industry-based research and development corporations (RDCs), to marketing and regulatory authorities, to advisory councils and bodies. They include the Rural Industries R&D Corporation, the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation, the Australian Fisheries Management Authority and the National Rural Advisory Council.
Portfolio boards and committees benefit from a diverse and balanced membership. Decision-makers with a range of skills, experience and background can help generate innovative approaches to business strategies. We particularly encourage participation and involvement from women, young people, and indigenous groups.
Balance contains personal details, education qualifications, information about work experience and current curriculum vitae (CVs) provided by the people who register. Searches of the database are conducted for most board vacancies, producing lists of people who meet the selection criteria for particular positions. Selection committees may choose potential candidates from these lists and invite them to participate in a formal selection process.
This package includes a brief registration form, some information on DAFF’s statutory and non-statutory bodies and a list of positions due for appointment in 2010. Because our searches are based primarily on the information supplied in CVs, we ask you to supply a current and reasonably comprehensive CV. All information you provide will be protected by the Privacy Act 1988.
Inclusion on the database does not guarantee automatic consideration for, or appointment to, a board position. Positions are advertised in the media and people registered with Balance should always apply in writing for positions that interest them.
