On 9 May 2015 the Australian Government announced new funding of $333 million to support farmers, farm businesses and rural communities affected by drought. The new funding includes:

Drought and rural assistance for farmers

The Australian Government provides programs to support farm families and farm businesses in hardship. Information on assistance provided by the Australian Government, including assistance for drought affected farmers, is available at Assistance Measures, or by telephoning the Farmer Assistance line on 13 23 16 from 8 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday.

National Drought Program Reform

Since 1 July 2014 a new national approach to drought programs has been be in place. The new approach replaces the Excepti​onal Circumstances arrangements and focuses on encouraging farmers to prepare for and manage the effects of drought and other challenges. The new Farm Household Allowance is the Australian Government’s main contribution to reform. See the Drought assistance contacts for links to state and territory initiatives.
