Advancing Agriculture Fund (AgFund)
The Advancing Agricultural Industries program has concluded.
Current projects will continue through to completion, but no further funding calls will be made under the program.
New South Wales
AgVance Farming Pty Ltd: $25 620 to demonstrate the innovative use of moisture probe capacitance technology to enable farmers to accurately monitor their soil moisture and increase water-use efficiency.
Alma Park/Pleasant Hills Landcare Group: $55 000 to assist in maintaining viable livestock enterprises through the promotion and adoption of innovative forage management strategies.
Australian Bushmen's Campdraft & Rodeo Association and National Cutting Horse Association: $55 000 to prepare a Biosecurity Strategy for the equine industry within the Tamworth region (the location of the Australian Equine and Livestock Centre).
Central West Farming Systems: $9900 to increase the ability of farmers across the Central West region of NSW, to better utilise their computers and software in order to assist in risk assessment and management.
Eco5 Milk Innovation Network: $42 150 to increase pasture production and returns, through the validation of integrated feeding and management systems to produce milk with unique health attributes.
Gulargambone Rural Advisory Service Inc: $5650 to improve members’ farming businesses by drawing on the skills and knowledge of rural and economic advisors and innovative farmers.
Liverpool Plains Land Management Committee: $53 000 to increase the adoption of best management practices for cropping through the adoption of stubble retention, zero-till, response cropping, controlled traffic and reduced compaction.
Victoria
Asparagus Growers of Sunraysia: $14 500 to improve decision making of asparagus farmers in the Sunraysia region to overcome the effects of reduced water allocations as a result of drought.
Birchip Cropping Group: $55 000 to increase profitability on farms through better advice, information exchange and discussions.
Far East Gippsland Sustainable Agriculture Group: $5954 to assess the weight gain impacts of vitamin B12 supplements for cattle.
GippsDairy: $23 900 to quantify and determine ways to better manage pasture damage in Gippsland caused by red headed cockchafers.
Gippsland Herd Improvement Cooperative: $55 000 to improve business management practices and put in place systems to ensure that sales and operations continue to be managed at the local level.
Mallee Agricultural Research Foundation Inc: $55 000 to demonstrate the use of alternative forage sources to improve returns for prime lamb enterprises.
Mallee Sustainable Farming Inc: $55 000 to encourage adoption of complex best practice farming systems for the Mallee region.
Mudgegonga & District Landcare Group Inc: $46 173 to develop innovative methods to establish four varieties of scarab colonies to help improve soil quality recycle nutrients and increase water infiltration.
North East Merino Breeders: $20 733 to evaluate the use of Radio Frequency Identification technology in the collection of pedigree information and compare the technique against more traditional methods.
Riverina & North East Cereals c/o Mr Good Buns: $17 555 to develop a Quality Standard document to address critical safety and quality points along the grains supply chain.
Southern Farming Systems: $22 000 to research the potential benefits of, and requirements for, an expanded grain and forage cropping industry in Gippsland.
Wimmera Mallee Future Farming Group: $51 953 to improve drought preparation by identifying key practices that contributed to the management of recent drought conditions.
Queensland
Blackall and Benlidi BestPrac Group: $54 750 to demonstrate the innovative production strategies developed by the Sheep CRC by establishing trial sites and training operators to use the new technology.
Callide Valley Landcare Group: $14 250 to establish a market between properties and local mines for softwood seeds and provide information to suppliers on the most efficient way to regenerate softwood species.
Darling Downs Free Range Egg Producers: $55 000 to reduce the rate of high layer hen mortalities and associated production costs in the free range egg production sector through improving farm management practices.
The Leucaena Network: $20 400 to improve and promote grower management skills in the use of leucaena forage systems during periods of drought and drought recovery.
Nursery and Garden Industry Queensland: $45 550 to address reduced water allocation by demonstrating the potential water savings through the investigation of improved sprinkler heads.
Q Group: $55 000 to build on the success of recent exports to China by further developing new markets through improved information flow between producers and the market; technical improvements; and developing a strategic plan to supply mandarins to the Beijing Olympics.
Queensland Citrus Growers Inc: $49 500 to develop resource material to support the Queensland Citrus Marketing Action Plan.
SEQ QDO District Council: $50 900 to encourage networking and engagement across the dairy industry supply chain in South East Queensland to better identify opportunities for reducing the impact of drought on their businesses. Subtropical Dairy Program Ltd: $47 150 to network with, and develop the leadership and communication skills of, young dairy farmers in Far North Queensland.
Wide Bay-Burnett QDO District Council: $50 900 to encourage networking and engagement across the dairy industry supply chain in Wide Bay-Burnett and Central Queensland, to better identify opportunities for reducing the impact of drought on their businesses.
Western Australia
Darkan Farm Management Advisory Service: $24 200 to use economic analysis to determine best practice for coping with late and poor breaks in the season.
Liebe Group: $52 802 to help growers understand administrative and regulatory business processes so they can effectively manage their farms and provide feedback to other industry bodies on these processes.
Margaret River Wine Industry Association: $55 000 to trial the innovative use of podcasting to communicate relevant and timely knowledge to local wine producers.
South Australia
AgriExchange Farm Management Pty Ltd: $54 924 to deliver improved business management systems to farmers in the Murray Darling Basin, by providing an effective drought management template.
Flinders Ranges Premium Grain Pty Ltd: $39 500 to develop business protocols, risk management strategies, networks and leadership skills within the grain industry of the region. Nutwood Orchards Pty Ltd: $28 000 to design and install a subsurface, pulse irrigation system to investigate how to decrease the labour costs currently associated with installation of irrigation systems.
SA Lamb Development Team: $47 450 to conduct workshops to help drive the South Australian sheep and lamb industry forward by providing opportunities for young people in the industry.
South Australian No-Till Farmers Association: $50 000 to provide industry with best practice information through the SANTFA No-Till Journal and website, and through crop-walks.
Tasmania
Tasmanian Abalone Council: $26 620 to hold workshops to communicate improved business management practices. The project is aimed at ensuring the quality of live Tasmanian abalone.
