Horticulture

Apple and Pear Australia Limited: aims to provide industry with the skills and information necessary for orchard intensification, increased productivity, increased labour efficiency and improved quality of fruit produced. Value of funding: $1 000 000 over 3 years.

Australian Citrus Growers: project aims to improve communication, coordination and leadership within the citrus industry. Value of funding: $350 000.

Australian Citrus Growers: is also being funded for a project to address inefficiencies within the domestic and international supply chains by increasing coordination across the supply chain sectors.  Agreement on the implementation will come out of supply chain forums. Value of funding: $200 000.
 
Australian Dried Fruits Association: aimed to support the development of viable strategies to improve marketing and build on the outcomes of the consumer research conducted in their Taking Stock and Setting Directions project in 2005. This project was completed in January 2008. Value of funding: $200 000

Horticulture Australia Limited: aims to develop a strategic plan to assist the industry improve its ability to manage industry challenges. Challenges include: greater global competition from low-cost producers; changing consumer needs; availability of labour and skills; and technological changes. Value of funding: $900 000.

Northern Territory Horticultural Association Incorporated: aimed to realign the market for the rambutan, passionfruit and lychee sectors; improve information and communication through development of the Supply Chain Inventory Management system; and to meld the Northern Territory and Queensland sectors into a more collaborative body to be known as the Tropical Exotic Fruit Association. This project has been completed. Value of funding: $280 000.

Growcom: developed a strategic horticulture industry workforce plan, to significantly build upon industry capacity and connections in relation to workforce issues; and developed a model for the potential roll-out of the workforce plan throughout Australia. Value of funding: $350 000.

The Australian Flower Export Council: aimed to strengthen the human and organisational capacity of the Australian wildflower industry, to enable more effective delivery of nationally focused actions in the future. This project has been completed. Value of funding: $100 000.

Cherry Growers of Australia: project aims to deliver an industry tailored training program to strengthen the human and organisational capacity of the Australian cherry industry and re-position the industry to effectively deliver nationally focused projects in the future. Value of funding: $100 000.

Australian Olive Association Pty Ltd: aimed to address the industry’s structural and ongoing funding issues; develop an industry code of practice; and develop a domestic consumer awareness campaign. Value of funding: $200 000.

Australian Table Grapes Association: aimed to increase capacity of industry leaders to effectively govern and lead the industry; improve communication within the industry and provide mentoring for young industry members. This project has been completed. Value of funding: $100 000.

Mildura Rural City Council: aimed to facilitate maximum sustainability, profitability and competitiveness in the future. It was delivered through four sub-projects (improving industry performance, realising sustainable enterprise size, achieving greater industry collaboration and value adding and regional diversification). The project was completed in March 2007. Value of funding: $60 000.

Organic Federation of Australia: aimed to support the organic industry during a transition phase; and develop and improve the industry framework to provide clarity to consumers concerning labelling as “organic”. This project was completed in March 2007. Value of funding: $175 000.

Wine

Riverland Winegrape Growers’ Association: aimed to improve the understanding of key social impacts on wine grapes and citrus producers in the Riverland. It also identified direct and indirect impacts on community and regional resources. The project was completed in May 2007. Value of funding: $30 000.

Winemaker’s Federation of Australia: project aimed to improve the future sustainability, profitability and competitiveness of the industry by working in collaboration with the food, wine and tourism industries as part of the National Wine Tourism Strategy. This project was completed in March 2007. Value of funding: $195 000.

Winemaker’s Federation of Australia – Communication Directions: involves the delivery of approximately 15 workshops in wine growing regions throughout Australia, to enable producers to increase their understanding of the recommendations within Wine Australia: Directions to 2025.

Wine Grape Growers’ Australia: aims to build the capacity of winegrowers and industry organisations to manage change: by encouraging better collaboration; developing business tools; developing a whole of industry strategy; creating linkages and improving organisational structure across industry; and improving succession planning. Value of funding: $500 000.

Fodder/Grain

Livestock Feed Grain Users Group and Grains Council of Australia [represented by Australian Pork Ltd]: aimed to establish a formal structure to allow the Livestock Feed Grain Users Group and the Grains Council of Australia to work cooperatively and undertake projects designed to advance the work of both organisations. This project was completed in December 2007. Value of funding: $40 000.

Dairy Australia and Cattle Council of Australia: a component of a broader industry-initiated drought response. It aimed to support and sustain the national dairy and beef breeding herds by enhancing the decision-making of farmers—especially under conditions of reduced fodder and water availability. Value of funding: $120 000.

Livestock

Australian Honey Bee Industry Council: aimed to reduce the risks of skills shortages, pests and diseases and the continued decline in the access to public land; and improve the value and recognition of pollination services amongst plant industries. Value of funding: $161 500.

Deer Industry Association of Australia: working in partnership with the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, this project aims to establish between four and six commercially viable venison supply chain alliances; reduce anti-competitive and unethical practices in the supply chain; improve product quality consistency and supply reliability for venison products; and increase demand for Australian venison in premium and domestic and export markets. Value of funding: $350 000.

Pollination reliant industries: aims to develop a collaborative relationship between the bee and pollination-reliant industries and provide a more coordinated industry-led research and development framework. Value of funding: $120 000.

International Livestock Resources and Information Centre Ltd: aimed to develop specific strategies to improve the position of Australian cattle genetic industry and bring a number of cattle industry bodies together to determine the viability of exporting cattle genetics. Value of funding: $50 000.

Australian Egg Corporation Limited: aimed to build the industry’s capacity to better understand the marketing of their products; develop and expand commercial partnerships for the use of the industry’s by-products; and increase margins by offering alternative product solutions to the food service and processing industries.  This project has been completed. Value of funding: $295 000.

Seafood

Commonwealth Fisheries: aims to undertake three sub-projects (understanding social and cultural barriers to change; supply chain analysis; and “Fishskills” business, quotas and marketing skills training) to assist industries associated with Commonwealth fisheries to implement actions to secure a more sustainable, competitive and profitable future for the industry Value of funding: $480 000.

Southern Rocklobster Limited: aimed to guarantee the supply and quality of Southern Rocklobster and implement the Clean Green product certification to industry as part of a broader market development program for the Southern Rocklobster industry. This project has been completed. Value of funding: $349 000.

Forestry

Australian Plantation Products and Paper Industry Council Ltd and Timber Development Association NSW Ltd: aimed to introduce a Timber Product Stewardship Group to extend producer responsibility and further develop their long term strategy as identified in the Taking Stock and Setting Directions project in 2005. Value of funding: $310 000.
