Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety

The Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS) is a forum of governmental and non-governmental organisations working to develop national and international approaches to chemical safety.

The IFCS was created in 1994 by the International Conference on Chemical Safety and has held three meetings.

The department is part of an interdepartmental committee that prepares the contribution for Australia’s delegation to the forum.

The most recent meeting was Forum III, held in October 2000. Following this, a Declaration, the Bahia Declaration on Chemical Safety, was prepared which reaffirmed the commitment of Forum III to work collectively to accomplish agreed priorities over the coming five years. Australia played an extensive role in the drafting of this Declaration.
