Majority Western Division

The exceptional circumstances declaration for the Majority Western Division was recently extended by
the Hon. Tony Burke MP, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

All producers in the declared area are eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.

Agriculture-dependent small business operators who derive 70 per cent of their turnover from agriculture in any EC declared area are also eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.

Note: If your small business: is located in a town that is substantially reliant on farm incomes and has a population of 10,000 or less; and is in an EC area (including prima facie and interim assistance areas); and can demonstrate a significant downturn in income due to the drought, you may be eligible for assistance.

Producers and small business operators should not self-assess their eligibility for income support but should call the Drought Assistance Hotline on 13 23 16.

Area Description

The Majority Western Division EC declared area covers the Rural Lands Protection Board districts of Broken Hill, Wanaaring, Wentworth, Milparinka, Wilcannia, Balranald, Hillston and the south west section of Cobar.

Buffer Zone

A Buffer Zone covers the area south and west of a line formed by the intersection of the Kidman Way with the southern boundary of the Cobar RLPB at Gilgunnia then north by the Kidman Way to WDR 46 at Yarranvale, then west by WDR 46 to WDR 441, then north by WDR 441 through Lachlan Downs to the northern boundary of lot 5074, DP 45018, Parish of Kangerong, County of Mouramba, then south east by that boundary and the northern boundary of lot 5073, DP 45018, Parish of Dowling, county of Mouramba to WDR 45, then north-west by that road to the Cobar/Belarabon Rd, then south-west by that road to the Ivanhoe/Tilpa Rd, north-west by that road to a road approx 3.4km after the Ivanhoe/Tilpa Rd crosses Sandy (Crowl) Creek, then south west by that road to the western boundary of Cobar RLPB, then south and east by that boundary to the point of commencement.
