The Exceptional Circumstances Declaration for this area will cease on 15 June 2008

From 24 October 2006, all producers in the Emerald-Bauhinia declared area are eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.

Agriculture-dependent small business operators who derive 70 per cent of their turnover from agriculture in any EC declared area are also eligible to apply for assistance .

Note: If your small business: is located in a town that is substantially reliant on farm incomes and has a population of 10,000 or less; and is in an EC area (including prima facie and interim assistance areas); and can demonstrate a significant downturn in income due to the drought, you may be eligible for assistance.

Producers and small business operators should not self-assess their eligibility for income support but should call the Drought Assistance Hotline on 13 23 16.

Area Description

The northern boundary of the Emerald-Bauhinia EC declared area is formed by following the Peak Downs Shire boundary east to the Sapphire Road, then south to the Capricorn Highway, which is followed east to Emerald and then north along the Nogoa River to the Peak Downs Shire boundary. The southern boundary follows the Bauhinia Shire boundary from the Carnarvon Gorge National Park Road north to the Carnarvon Development Road, which is followed north to Rolleston, and then the Dawson Highway is followed east to the Duaringa Shire boundary.

Buffer Zone

A Buffer Zone covers a seven-kilometre area to the east of the EC declared area in the Durainga and Bauhinia Shires.
