Peak Downs
The Exceptional Circumstances Declaration for this area will cease on 15 June 2008
From 24 October 2006, all producers in the Peak Downs declared area are eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.Agriculture-dependent small business operators who derive 70 per cent of their turnover from agriculture in any EC declared area are also eligible to apply for assistance .
Note: If your small business: is located in a town that is substantially reliant on farm incomes and has a population of 10,000 or less; and is in an EC area (including prima facie and interim assistance areas); and can demonstrate a significant downturn in income due to the drought, you may be eligible for assistance.
Producers and small business operators should not self-assess their eligibility for income support but should call the Drought Assistance Hotline on 13 23 16.

Area Description
The Peak Downs EC declared area covers individually drought declared properties in the Shires of Peak Downs, southern portions of Belyando and northern portions of Emerald.
The boundary runs north east from Emerald along the Nogoa River to the Peak Downs Shire boundary and then follows the Peak Downs and Belyando Shire boundaries to latitude 22.6?S. The northern boundary is formed by latitude 22.6?S from the Belyando-Broadsound Shire boundary west to Mistake Creek. The western boundary is formed by following Mistake Creek south to the Peak Downs, Jericho and Emerald Shire boundaries. The southern boundary is formed by following the Peak Downs Shire boundary east to Sapphire Road, then south to the Capricorn Highway, which is followed east to Emerald.
Buffer Zone
A Buffer Zone applies to drought declared properties wholly or partly within about seven kilometres of the EC declared region.
The Buffer Zone also applies to farmers whose properties do not lie wholly or partly within the seven kilometre boundary, but the nearest part of the farm lies within several hundred metres of that seven kilometre boundary.
