South West Queensland
From 24 October 2006, all producers in the South West Queensland declared area are eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.
Agriculture-dependent small business operators who derive 70 per cent of their turnover from agriculture in any EC declared area are also eligible to apply for assistance .
Note: If your small business: is located in a town that is substantially reliant on farm incomes and has a population of 10,000 or less; and is in an EC area (including prima facie and interim assistance areas); and can demonstrate a significant downturn in income due to the drought, you may be eligible for assistance.
Producers and small business operators should not self-assess their eligibility for income support but should call the Drought Assistance Hotline on 13 23 16.

Area Description
The South West Queensland EC declared area covers the former shire of Diamantina; the former shire of Bulloo; the former shire of Barcoo; the former shire of Quilpie; the former shire of Paroo; all of the southern former shire of Isisford from the former Barcoo shire boundary along the Bimerah-Isisford Road, then the Four Corners-Glenloch Road to the Thirty Mile-Wahroongha Road, which is followed south to the Emmet Road, which is followed to Emmet and then to the Yaraka-Blackall Road to the former Blackall shire boundary; the western portion of the former Balonne shire along the highway from the former Paroo shire boundary to St George then following south along the Balonne River, the Balonne Minor River and the Narran River to the New South Wales border.
The area also includes the three properties of Cordillo Downs, Alton Downs and Pandie Pandie in north east South Australia.
Buffer Zone
A Buffer Zone covers eligible farmers whose properties are wholly or partly within seven kilometres of the EC declared area. The Buffer Zone also applies to farmers whose properties do not lie wholly or partly within the seven kilometre boundary, but the nearest part of the farm lies within several hundred metres of that seven kilometre boundary.
