Upper North District including Annex

The exceptional circumstances declaration for the Upper North District including Annex area was recently extended by the Hon. Tony Burke MP, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

All producers in the declared area are eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.

Agriculture-dependent small business operators who derive 70 per cent of their turnover from agriculture in any EC declared area are also eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.

Note: If your small business: is located in a town that is substantially reliant on farm incomes and has a population of 10 000 or less; and is in an EC area (including prima facie and interim assistance areas); and can demonstrate a significant downturn in income due to the drought, you may be eligible for assistance.

Producers and small business operators should not self-assess their eligibility for income support but should call the Drought Assistance Hotline on 13 23 16.

Area Descriptions

Within the District Council (DC) of Mount Remarkable, the Upper North District EC declared area includes parts of the Hundreds of Telowie, Baroota and Winnowie west of the Lower Flinders Ranges escarpment; Gregory, Wongyarra and Booleroo, north of the Wilmington-Melrose and Melrose-Black Rock Roads respectively, and Moockra, as delineated by the council boundary.

Within the Flinders Ranges DC, it includes parts of the Hundreds of Pichi Richi, Yarrah, Wyacca, as delineated by the council boundary; Kanyaka and Boolcunda, east of the north south Road through Partacoona and Simmonston to the Hawker Quorn Road; Palmer west of the Hawker Quorn Road, south of the Quorn to Carrieton Road and west of the north-south Road though Stephenston to the council boundary; and the Hundreds of Woolundunga, Willochra, Willowie, Pinda and Coonatto, within the DC Flinders Ranges and Mt Remarkable.

Within the Orroroo/Carrieton DC, it includes parts of the Hundreds of Pekina and Black Rock Plain, north of the Pekina-Yongala Road; and the Hundreds of Eskine, Walloway, Coomooroo, Oladdie, Eurelia and Yanyarrie.

Within the Peterborough DC, it includes parts of the Hundred of Yongala, north/east of the Yongala-Terowie Road; and the Hundreds of Gumbowie and Morgan.

Within the Goyder DC, it includes parts of the Hundreds of Whyte and Terowie, north/east of the Yongala-Terowie-Whyte Yarcowie Roads and the Barrier Highway to the southern boundary of the Hundred of Terowie.

The Upper North District Annex covers the Hundred of Appila east of the Yandiah/Pine Creek road and the Hundred of Tarcowie west of the Tarcowie/Caltowie road and south of the Booleroo/Tarcowie road. The area also includes the Hundred of Mannanarie to the east of Depot Road, north of Langs Road, east of Stock Road and north of the Mannanarie/Yongala Road.

Buffer Zones

A Buffer Zone extends 10 kilometres around the Upper North District EC declared area. A Buffer Zone extends 3 kilometres around the Upper North District Annex area.
