Mallee Eastern

Exceptional circumstances assistance for Eastern Mallee will continue under the Northern Victoria revised, Mallee-Northen Wimmera revised and Central Victoria North revised EC declarations until 31 March 2009.

The Shires of Campaspe and Gannawarra now form part of the Northern Victoria revised EC declared area.

The Shire of Buloke now forms part of the Mallee-Northern Wimmera revised EC declared area.

The Shire of Loddon now forms part of the Central Victoria North revised EC declared area.

All producers in the declared area are eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.

Agriculture-dependent small business operators who derive 70 per cent of their turnover from agriculture in any EC declared area are also eligible to apply for income support payments and interest rate subsidies.

Note: If your small business: is located in a town that is substantially reliant on farm incomes and has a population of 10,000 or less; and is in an EC area (including prima facie and interim assistance areas); and can demonstrate a significant downturn in income due to the drought, you may be eligible for assistance.

Producers and small business operators should not self-assess their eligibility for income support but should call the Drought Assistance Hotline on 13 23 16.

Area Description

The Mallee Eastern EC declared area ranges from Echuca north along the NSW/Victoria border to Barham, then west through Kerang and Quambatook to Dumosa, then south-west on the Dumosa-Corack road to its intersection with the Quambatook/Birchip Road, then west to Birchip, south along the Sunraysia Highway to Donald, then east via Charlton and Boort to the Loddon Valley Highway at Durham Ox, then south and east via Mitiamo to Echuca.

Buffer Zone

A Buffer Zone applies to properties that are wholly or partly within about seven kilometres of the northern, western and southern boundaries of the EC declared area. This region does not include the eastern boundary, defined as that part of the region from Echuca north along the NSW-Victoria border to Barham.

The Buffer Zone also applies to properties that do not lie wholly or partly within the seven kilometre boundary, but the nearest part of the farm lies within several hundred metres of that seven kilometre boundary.
