National Food Industry Strategy Statement 2002
The processed food industry is Australia's largest manufacturing sector, adding value to Australia's agricultural commodities for markets in Australia and around the world and generating a significant and growing trade surplus of around $11.9 billion in 2000-2001.
Ensuring a stronger performance by the Australian food industry into the future will require a coordinated and cooperative effort from industry and government.
The National Food Industry Strategy recognises the critical interdependence of public policy, market structures and business imperatives, in implementing strategies to build on the industry's strengths and minimise impediments to the industry's growth and development.
