Horticulture Code of Conduct
The mandatory code of conduct for the horticulture wholesale sector was introduced on 14 May 2007.
The purpose of the code is to improve the clarity and transparency of transactions between growers and wholesalers of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The code is mandatory under the Trade Practices Act 1974 and will be enforced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
Recommendations to improve the Horticulture Code of Conduct
As part of their enquiry into the Australian grocery prices in 2008, the ACCC made 13 recommendations to improve the code.
In their assessment, the ACCC recommended that the independent Horticulture Code Committee obtain feedback from industry before implementing the recommended changes to the Horticulture Code of Conduct.
