Chains of Success
The book "Chains of Success" is a study of the implementation of supply chain management principles by Australian and international agribusiness industries, in support of the Prime Minister’s Supermarket to Asia strategy.
The key message in Chains of Success is that competition in domestic and international markets is increasingly becoming ‘chain versus chain’ rather than ‘company versus company’. It is often smarter to cooperate rather than compete with other members of your supply chain, with the aim of becoming more competitive against other chains. Businesses must be prepared to be open and share information with other chain members, as the greatest increase in chain efficiency results from an increase in information flow.
Chains of Success provides practical examples of Australian and international businesses that are applying various approaches to supply chain management. The book examines eight case studies covering much of the spectrum of agribusiness industries - from fresh, largely unprocessed foods, such as tomatoes, to processed foods such as cheese and meat products.
These case studies have identified valuable lessons for others wishing to improve the Competitiveness of their agribusiness supply chain. They highlight that to participate in a coordinated supply chain, a business does not have to own the processes up and downstream – control through knowledge can be equally effective. In addition, a business does not have to be a chain leader. Simply being an active partner is sufficient to gain some of the benefits of supply chain management.
