2008 Dairy Quota Review
In April 2008, the Hon. Tony Burke MP, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, appointed an independent panel comprised of Mr John McQueen, Chair, Mr David Harris and Dr Sandra Welsman, to conduct the 2008 Dairy Quota Review. The Panel was tasked with reviewing the operation of Australia’s dairy export quotas to the United States and the European Union.
Minister Burke requested that the panel examine and report on the appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency of the current quota management arrangements and identify areas where improvements to the quota management arrangements could be made.
The panel consulted widely in its deliberations and invited all interested parties to lodge submissions addressing the terms of reference in developing its report.
Minister Burke has released the panel’s report and has responded to its recommendations. The report and Minister Burke’s response are available below.
