After eight years of operation, the Dairy Adjustment Authority in April 2008 made the final scheduled quarterly payments to unitholders. Between making the final payment to farmers, and its formal closure on 31 December 2008, the DAA focused on finalising its 2007-08 reporting obligations and making deceased estate and failed credit payments. Under the Dairy Adjustment Levy Termination Act 2008, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has assumed the powers and functions of the DAA.
