Dairy Quota Fees Increased

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry administers quotas for the export of dairy products to the European Union and the United States on a cost recovery fee basis.

The rate of quota access fees was recently reviewed. New fee rates have been introduced to cover a drop in fee revenue caused by a decline in shipments of quota in dairy products to the European Union and the United States. Revenue projections and budgeted costs for delivering the quota administration service in 2011–12 are explained in the Cost Recovery Impact Statement.

Following consultation with the secretariat of the Dairy Trade Reference Group and the Australian Dairy Products Federation and comment from industry, all dairy quota lines are now subject to the fee of 1.4 cents per kilogram or $14 per tonne. The new fees apply to:

  • All allocations of dairy quota for shipment to the European Union and United States in the 2012 quota year and subsequent quota years
  • All one–off shipments of in–quota dairy products to the European Union and United States in the 2012 quota year and subsequent quota years.

The process for allocating dairy quota entitlements remains unchanged.
