Meat Quota Fees Increased

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry administers quotas for the export of meat products to the European Union and the United States on a cost recovery fee basis.

The rate of quota access fees was recently reviewed. New fee rates have been introduced to cover a drop in fee revenue caused by a decline in shipments of quota in meat products to the United States. Revenue projections and budgeted costs for delivering the quota administration service in 2011–12 are explained in the Cost Recovery Impact Statement.

Following consultation with the Australian Meat Industry Council and comments from industry, all meat quota lines are now subject to the new fee structure of 0.26 cents per kilogram or $2.60 per tonne. The new fees apply to:

  • All allocations of European Union sheepmeat and goatmeat quota for shipment in the 2012 quota year and subsequent quota years
  • All shipments of in–quota beef to the United States for the 2012 quota year and subsequent quota years
  • All allocations of European Union high quality beef quota for shipment in the 2012–13 quota year and subsequent quota years.

The process for allocating European Union sheepmeat and goatmeat quota remains unchanged.
The process for allocating European Union high quality beef quota entitlement is under review.
