Crops
Field crops include cotton, fodder, grain, hemp, oilseeds, pulses, rice, seed, sugar, peanuts and tobacco. Australia exports the majority of field crops produced, nearly 80 per cent. A sizeable amount of produce grown is tropical and there is a growing rare and exotic fruit industry in Queensland.
The drought has brought about a significant drop in crop production which is having an impact on the national GDP. DAFF works with industry organisations and other agencies to keep crop farmers in areas of the country affected by drought informed during this difficult time.
Continuing drought is also making stock management difficult with the depleted stocks for domestic livestock. More...
