Avian Influenza Modelling Project

The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is co-supervising a doctoral research project managed by the University of Sydney and enacted under the Australian Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The aim of this project is to develop and validate a simulation model for the spread of avian influenza within the Australian poultry industries. Using this model, a range of introduction and mitigation scenarios will be examined and, under each, the likely cost of the disease will be estimated.

The project is due to be completed by end 2008.
