AQUAPLAN - a five year review
In 1997, the Australian Federal Government established the Fish Health Management Committee (FHMC) with the mandate to develop a comprehensive aquatic animal health plan for Australia and to address management procedures for aquatic animal disease emergencies. The result was AQUAPLAN - Australia’s National Strategic Plan for Aquatic Animal Health 1998-2003.
For the past five years, members of FHMC and their supporting agencies and industries have implemented a wide range of priority AQUAPLAN projects. In August 2001, a meeting of industry and government stakeholders decided to review FHMC. The outcome was that FHMC would be extensively restructured with a new membership and new Terms of Reference. The restructured committee is called the Aquatic Animal Health Committee (AAHC). With the changeover from FHMC to AAHC, it was considered timely to develop a comprehensive review of progress towards implementation of AQUAPLAN programs and projects.
The result was the publication of AQUAPLAN - a five year review. This publication details the progress made against each of the original 74 projects and an additional 19 projects that have been identified at subsequent Stakeholder Workshops.
