Giant or Hedge grasshopper - Valanga irregularis

Major differences between nymphs of these species: both species are highly variable in colour but generally Valanga nymphs are more strongly patterned than spur-throated locust nymphs. Also:

  • spur-throated locust has a light stripe along the top of the body
  • Valanga has distinct bands on the rear femur
