Distribution of the Migratory locust
The migratory locust occurs throughout the warmer regions of the Old World and it is a major pest of agricultural in many countires. In Australia, migratory locusts are mainly restricted to central Queensland but intermittent populations may extend into southern areas of the state and northern New South Wales.

In Queensland the migratory locust is a coastal or sub-coastal species and normally is not found west of the Drummond Range. It has caused problems fairly regularly in the Central Highlands for most of the past decade.
This species is also an occasional pest in parts of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
