APLC Key Activities
In accordance with the APLC Charter established by the five investing governments who have signed the APLC Memorandum of Understanding, the purpose of the APLC is to manage populations of the three defined pest species in situations where they have the potential to inflict significant damage to agricultural industries in more than one member state. The member states are New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.
The APLC delivers against this charter by undertaking activities in key functional areas:
- monitoring and forecasting
- control
- research
- environmental management
- communications and engagement
These functions are all underpinned by a process of continuous review and improvement to ensure that best practice is applied by APLC and its collaborators. This continuous improvement process has resulted in recent changes to APLC operational practices and documentation (such as the revised Information for Pilots document, which reflects changed procedures from recommendations of the external aerial safety review), while APLC research activities are designed to improve monitoring, forecasting, control operations and environmental management.
