National approach to the management of Ovine Johne's Disease

Note: these rules supersede the 5th edition of the NJDP Standard Definitions and Rules for Sheep, Goats and Deer (replacement document relating to sheep only).

The guidelines are designed to assist the management and control of Ovine Johne’s Disease (OJD) in a nationally harmonious manner.

They complement the Australian Sheep Johne's Disease Market Assurance Program (SheepMAP) which has been designed to provide a degree of assurance for the sale and movement of sheep from flocks which have a low risk of infection.

State programs are designed to manage and control disease in known infected flocks. The guidelines also describe the Assurance-Based Credit (ABC) Scheme for the facilitation of trade with regards to Johne's Disease status.

These guidelines refer to other authoritative documents including the Australia and New Zealand Standard Diagnostic Protocols (ANZSDPs) and the SheepMAP. The relevant definitions used in the SheepMAP have been incorporated into the guidelines.
