Surveillance Reference Group (SRG)

The Surveillance Reference Group (SRG) oversees the development of the National Plant Health Surveillance Framework for Australia. More detailed information about the SRG is provided below.

Terms of Reference

The SRG will provide advice to Plant Health Committee on issues related to the:

1. Development of effective, standardised and well-targeted resource material, networks, and record management to enhance general surveillance in Australia.

2. Development of new methods and refinement of existing methods to improve the efficacy of surveillance activities.

3. Ongoing resource commitment by jurisdictions, in partnership with industry beneficiaries.

4. Incorporation of risk based early detection capability into government and industry biosecurity plans.

The SRG will:

5. Develop and as appropriate implement a National Plant Health Surveillance Strategy.

6. Coordinate the development of a code of practice for plant health surveillance in Australia.

7. Provide plant health input into the development and implementation of BioSIRT.

8. Coordinate and facilitate a national approach to collecting and recording surveillance data to document Australia’s plant health status.

9. Provide technical advice on surveillance requirements during response to emergency plant pest (EPP) incursions and assist in preparation of the surveillance component of EPP incursion response plans.

Membership

The SRG is co-chaired by the Office of the Chief Plant Protection Officer and Plant Health Australia. It includes members from state and territory agencies with surveillance expertise.

The SRG is a sub-committee of the Plant Health Committee.
