Reporting Performance
The development of an enhanced national reporting system will be an important action arising from the implementation of the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS).
Science has an essential role in providing innovation and the foundations of animal welfare standards and ‘best-practice’ animal husbandry.
The existing performance standards for the welfare of livestock are a core component of the national animal health system. They are in line with animal welfare approaches in some other countries.
Benchmarking
Results of an examination by the Australian Government, State and Territory Governments and twelve livestock industries, of the level of compliance against thes performance standards will lead to the establishment of agreed national benchmarks.
