Australian Government response to mistreatment of Australian cattle in Indonesian abattoirs
Australian Government action on live exports
On 7 June 2011 the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Hon. Senator Joe Ludwig, suspended live animal exports to Indonesia for slaughter following evidence of animal welfare abuses in some abattoirs.
The Australian Government condemns the mistreatment of animals and is working to introduce new measures to ensure appropriate animal welfare standards are met across all live export markets right through to point of slaughter.
