AQIS Redline - Reporting a breach
AQIS Redline 1800 803 006
AQIS Redline is a freecall service for people to confidentially report someone they suspect is breaking Australian quarantine, meat or food inspection laws and jeopardising Australia’s environment, agricultural industries and way of life.
Contributions from concerned citizens are valued because everyone plays a part in protecting Australia from exotic pests and diseases.
Calling the AQIS Redline
Calls are usually answered by an AQIS compliance expert or a message can be left on the Redline and the call returned.
If the occurrence falls within the AQIS area of responsibility, the officer will take a full report. AQIS staff may also want to interview the caller in person but this is optional. After the report, an immediate investigation may be launched or the information might form part of AQIS’ general information gathering.
If asked to, the compliance officer will contact the caller with the results or the officer will give the caller an AQIS reference number to find out them later.
If the call can be handled by another authority, such as police or customs, the AQIS compliance officer will provide appropriate contact details.
Confidentiality
AQIS is part of the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and is subject to legislation which requires the protection of all confidential information.
AQIS compliance staff are committed to protecting the confidentiality of everyone who calls the Redline. Leaving a name and contact details is not necessary but if evidence is ‘on the record’, it may help AQIS prosecute cases. All records are held securely, and no information is passed on to other departments or agencies, except where privacy laws allow.
