Nomination Process

Certificate of Commendation

Quarantine Certificates of Commendation recognise individuals and organisations who have made a significant contribution to maintaining Australia’s quarantine integrity in their region.

To be eligible nominees (individuals, groups or companies excluding public sector organisations) must have demonstrated a significant contribution to maintaining Australia’s quarantine integrity. For example:

  • an individual identifies and reports a particular disease outbreak or pest incursion;
  • an individual or company reports suspicious activities that may be of quarantine concern, such as live animals or food being landed from a foreign vessel in a remote area, which leads to the prevention of a breach of quarantine regulations;
  • an individual or company or group make a special effort to protect or maintain animal or plant health; or
  • an individual, company or group undertake a special activity that you believe supports Australia’s quarantine integrity.

Nominations must be lodged in writing, and must include:

  • a brief explanation (500-1000 words) of what action the individual, company or group as taken to assist maintaining Australia’s quarantine integrity;
  • an outline of why they deserve to be recognised;
  • a description of where and when the worthy action took place;
  • a brief explanation of why the nominee believes the action deserves commendation; and
  • whether there are ongoing implications for Australia’s quarantine integrity.

Regional Quarantine Awards

The Regional Quarantine Awards recognise the individuals and/or organisations that have made the most outstanding contribution to maintaining Australia's quarantine integrity in their region for that year.

To be eligible, individuals, groups or companies, excluding public sector organisations, must have been awarded a Quarantine Certificate of Commendation between 1 October 2007 and 30 September 2008.

National Quarantine Award

The National Quarantine Award recognises the one individual and/or organisation who has made the most outstanding contribution to maintaining Australia's quarantine integrity nation-wide for that year.

All Regional Award winners are eligible to be considered for the National Quarantine Award.

Public Sector Quarantine Award

The Public Sector Quarantine Award recognises public servants and government organisations who have made a significant contribution to maintaining Australia's quarantine integrity.

Nominations must be lodged in writing, and must include:

  • a brief explanation (500-1000 words) of what action the individual, company or group as taken to assist maintaining Australia's quarantine integrity;
  • an outline of why they deserve to be recognised;
  • a description of where and when the worthy action took place;
  • a brief explanation of why the nominee believes the action deserves commendation; and
  • whether there are ongoing implications for Australia’s quarantine integrity.

Certificate Conditions

  • When a Quarantine Certificate of Commendation or a National Quarantine Award is awarded, the information contained on the nomination form may be used for promotional purposes.
  • The judging panel reserves the right not to award a certificate if in its opinion the submission does not adequately meet the criteria.
  • Administration panel decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
  • Nominations will be strictly confidential.
