Feature article
AQIS wins prestigious US environmental award
An AQIS-led initiative has won a major award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its achievements in protecting the Earth's ozone layer by reducing the use of methyl bromide in quarantine treatments.
Through the Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme, AQIS helps quarantine agencies in Indonesia, India, Malaysia and Thailand (with Papau New Guinea, China and the Philippines soon to join) to better manage exports to Australia, resulting in a signficant reduction of imported containers requiring re-fumigation on arrival.
