Something to declare: Centenary of Quarantine

Next year marks 100 years since the signing of the Quarantine Act 1908, which provided the foundation for human, plant and animal quarantine in Australia.

As part of the Centenary of Quarantine celebrations, an exhibition called Something to declare: Centenary of Quarantine, developed by AQIS, will be displayed at the National Museum of Australia, from December this year
until January next year.

The exhibition will showcase the important contribution and evolution of quarantine in Australia. As a public acknowledgement of the success of all involved in the quarantine story over the past century, it will remind Australians of their responsibilities in helping to keep Australia free from the world’s worst pests and diseases.

Larger-than-life models of an Asian longhorn beetle larva and a khapra beetle will also feature at the exhibition.

A number of key activities and events will continue nationally throughout the centenary year including each regional office hosting the exhibition.

The exhibition will be on display in the Main Hall of the National Museum of Australia, Canberra from 4 December 2007 to 31 January 2008.
