Vessels

The primary function of the AQIS Seaports Program is to ensure that all vessels arriving in Australia from overseas comply with International Health Regulations and to ensure that all quarantine risk posed by the vessel is adequately managed. This is achieved by:

  • assessing the quarantine risk of each vessel entering Australian waters

  • taking all action necessary to ensure that the vessel does not introduce any exotic pests and diseases as determined by the risk assessment.

The Operator Guidelines for Vessels 25 metres and greater and the Operator Guidelines for Vessels less than 25 metres have been developed to assist masters of vessels, shipping agents and owners comply with quarantine requirements and provide information on what to expect during vessel inspections.
