Disability assistance dogs returning to Australia
AQIS cannot guarantee that dogs exported from Australia will be eligible for reimport. Please consider this carefully before exporting your pet.
This is largely due to that fact that exported animals may be exposed to exotic diseases and may therefore not be able to meet the AQIS import requirements.
Dogs that have been exported from Australia, immediately relinquish their Australian status. Dogs must be resident in the country of export for six months before being eligible for return to Australia under the conditions of that country. If you wish to reimport your pet within six months of export, preparations must have been made prior to leaving Australia. The information packages provided detail these preparations.
Please consider that dogs are only eligible for direct import from AQIS approved countries. If your pet is exported to a non-approved country it must travel to, and be resident in, an approved country for the six months immediately preceding reimport to Australia. Animals that have been resident in an approved country for a minimum of six months become eligible for import into Australia under the AQIS import conditions that apply to that particular approved country.
