Category 2: Minimum 30 days in Australian quarantine

Cats and dogs from the following countries can be imported to Australia, provided that they meet all of the AQIS import conditions.

  • Bahrain
  • Barbados
  • Cyprus
  • Falkland Islands
  • Fiji
  • French Polynesia (includes Tahiti, Society Islands, Marquesas Islands, Austral Islands, Tuamotu Islands, Gambier Islands)
  • Guam
  • Hawaii
  • Iceland
  • the Republic of Ireland
  • Japan
  • Malta
  • Mauritius
  • New Caledonia
  • Norway
  • Singapore
  • Sweden
  • Taiwan
  • the United Kingdom
  • Vanuatu

Please read through the information package thoroughly before contacting the Live Animal Imports Program or the nearest AQIS office for any further questions you may have about the importation process.

No additional documentation, vaccinations or testing can be completed to reduce or avoid the Australian quarantine period.

Cats and dogs must spend the Australian quarantine period in one of the three government animal quarantine stations equipped to accommodate cats and dogs. They are located in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Import conditions relevant to other animals, such as birds and horses.
