Application to Import Biological Materials

Importers now have more options to complete, submit and pay for an application to import biological materials:

1. Complete and submit electronic application form online - ePermit materials
2. Complete and submit electronic application form online (eLodge)
3. Download application form and submit by fax or post.

Please note: processing of all import permit applications will not begin until the prescribed fee is paid in full. Applicants should also go to the Checklist for Importing Biological Materials for more information on the documents needed for the assessment of biological import permit applications.

1  Complete and submit application form for ePermits materials

Import Permit applications for certain Biological Materials may be submitted using the ePermits system.

ePermits allows applicants to submit applications online within our electronically secure environment and will deliver the final permit to a nominated email address.

In general applications submitted using ePermits will be turned around quickly due to reduced administrative and assessment processes. Note: not all commodities are available through ePermits.

Please search for your commodity using the ICON database to see if it is eligible for ePermit application.

2  Complete and submit application form online (eLodge)

You can apply online for an Import Permit for Biological Materials that are not available through ePermits using the eLodgement system.

Simply fill out the application to import Biological Materials form and submit the form including payment within our secure environment.

The application form is made up of 3 steps:

1. Fill out importer and exporter details
2. Fill out product/commodity details and importer declaration
3. Provide payment details.

You can apply for an Import Permit for any Biological Material manually by downloading the application form below and forwarding it with payment by post or fax to DAFF.

Paying for your manual application

Processing of your application form will not begin before the prescribed fee is paid in full. Please refer to the Charging Schedule for Import Permit Applications to ensure you have provided sufficient payment.

If you are submitting your application manually you can pay for your application in one of the following ways:

• mail or fax credit card details, with your application form to the DAFF Canberra office. Please attach a completed Credit card payment form to your application.

• provide a cheque, with your application form, to the DAFF Canberra office. Cheques should be payable to the 'Collector of Public Monies, DAFF'.
  
  
• in person at your local DAFF office.
