In Vivo Use of Imported Biological Products
There are significant quarantine risks associated with the in vivo use of imported biological products in non-laboratory animals. (Laboratory animals include those defined in the following list and must be contained under laboratory conditions: guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rabbits, rats, rodents, and micro-organisms.)
For in vivo use in non-laboratory organisms (eg. chickens, sheep, cattle, etc.) a separate in vivo application must be lodged with, and approved by AQIS. This also applies if the product is to be used in vaccine or veterinary therapeutic manufacture. AQIS approval for in vivo use must be obtained at the time of importation, or prior to pre-imported biologicals being used for any in vivo purpose.
