Food import compliance agreements (FICA)

Food importers have been able to enter into a Food Import Compliance Agreement (FICA) with DAFF since February 2010.

FICAs offer food importers an alternative regulatory arrangement to inspection and testing of their products under the Imported Food Inspection Scheme (IFIS). FICAs are an assurance based regulatory arrangement undertaken through formal recognition and audit of an importer’s food safety management system by DAFF.

All food imported under a FICA will continue to be subject to quarantine import restrictions in accordance with the Quarantine Act 1908 and its subordinate legislation.
