The Empty Container Scheme allows accredited persons at Quarantine Approved Premises (QAP), through the assessment of international repositioned empty containers, to:
- verify cleanliness
- undertake the subsequent cleaning and disposal, and/or
- refer quarantine material found inside the containers to DAFF Biosecurity.
Accredited persons are able to inspect international repositioned empty containers without the need for DAFF Biosecurity to examine each container. The scheme provides for accredited persons to assess the container for quarantine concerns, and, on the basis of that assessment, record the level that relates to releasing the container, removing the contamination or contacting DAFF Biosecurity for intervention.
