Review of AQIS Giant African Snail (GAS) Risk Management Strategies.
Introduction of a single GAS Country Action List for Australia.
This notice is to advise industry and other stakeholders of the completion of the review of the AQIS risk management strategies for Giant African Snail (GAS) and relatives, and the development of a proposed single 'GAS Country Action List' for comment and review.
AQIS manages the quarantine risk posed by GAS through the use of Country Action Lists that identify containers and cargo at risk of contamination with GAS. Currently there are two GAS Country Action Lists in operation: the AQIS GAS Country Action List, which is used by all Australian States and Territories and a second list of additional countries that applies to goods destined for the Northern Territory only.
AQIS has now completed the principle components of a comprehensive review of GAS risk mitigation procedures.
The review has produced a single national GAS risk management procedure that will be trialled nationally for 12 months and will replace the two GAS Country Action Lists currently in operation.
The report on the development of this single Country Action List is now available for stakeholder comment at www.aqis.gov.au/gas-review. [This report is now closed for comment]
Comment on the proposed GAS National Country List is sought in writing by Wednesday 15 July 2009. Questions and comments should be directed to the Project Manager:
