What is an RSS feed?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a technology used to create feeds for web pages that are frequently updated. Once subscribed to a particular feed, when the webpage is updated the feed is automatically updated with the most recent and up-to-date information. Feeds are generally used for news and blog websites, but can also be used for distributing other types of information such as the Import Industry Notices published regularly by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS).

What are the benefits of subscribing to an RSS feed?

Subscribing to an RSS feed ensures that you receive timely updates from the subscribed website. The RSS reader checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds. If a user is subscribed to more than one feed, information can be aggregated from many sites into one place. By subscribing to the Import Industry Advice Notices, you will automatically retrieve the latest content published by AQIS on the Import Industry Advice Notices page; such as information on system outages and recently published policy documents and updates.
