10-2012 - DAFF enhancements to AQIS Import Management System (AIMS) and Self Assessment Clearance (SAC) Paperless Process

Other format

This information is also available in the following format:

Who does this notice affect?

All Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) commercial and non-commercial cargo clients.

What is changing?

DAFF will be consolidating the five existing regional Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service’s (AQIS) Import Management System (AIMS) computer servers into one central database.

This will provide greater stability to the DAFF system and will make AIMS updates easier across Australia. The implementation of these system changes should involve minimal interruption to our services.

To help streamline and improve consistency in the clearance of the growing volume of air express cargo, DAFF clients who participate in the DAFF Self Assessed Clearance (SAC) Paperless process will also now have their SAC entries processed centrally.

The centralisation of SAC processing will occur for Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Sydney and Cairns at 5 am (AEST) on 7 February 2012. For Melbourne the change will occur at 5 am (AEST) 14 February 2012.

Any DAFF SAC Paperless consignments that require an upgrade to AIMS will be done by the SAC National Coordination Centre (NCC). Clients will receive an AIMS direction providing them with information that documents must be presented for assessment to the relevant regional office. Clients will be required to present their documents over the front counter or email them to the regional office.

SAC processing inquiries for DAFF SAC Paperless clients should be directed in the first instance to the SAC NCC:
